I tried out a new candy bar Pistachio Torrone Bar for the walk/metro home from Whole Foods. There is something interesting about a couple quintessentially Italian sweets of which I include cannoli and torrone. When I was growing up cannoli was available after dinner on special occasions. When I was younger I always thought of it as a pastry to eat if nothing else is available. In other words if we had cannoli, my sweet tooth cup was half filled.
Also, on the rare occasion that I visited my relatives in St. Louis, my grandma had little boxes of torrone that I would eat at her house because there was nothing else to snack on. Because of the memories associated with these two pastries I viewed Italian pastries as an acquired taste to be enjoyed much much later in life if ever. Definitely an indication that nothing really good was to be had.
At least 30 years past before I grew beyond associating them with Italy, and a lack of good cookies, and started associating them with good pastries. That's quite an achievement.
I doubt I'll have many coffee musings anymore. I'm decreasing my coffee consumption. They will probably be just morning musings after I read some poetry. Or maybe I'll just post when I have a new sweet to talk about. There's so many good new sweets at Whole Foods I shouldn't run out of material.
