Elizabeth Gilbert, the author of Eat Pray Love writes as I hope I would think. On some level I totally get her. I don't remember having such an affinity with a writer before. Her lifestyle is completely different from mine, but her words just make complete sense to me. She's incredibly funny. Way to find irony in the world!
I'm still in the Eat section of the book which is placed in Italy. She wants to finally feel pleasure in life, which is quite a freedom if you think about it, and she's never allowed herself that type of mindset.
When I lived in Seattle I allowed myself that type of mindset because I had a couple jobs, and a lot of time on my hands. When I was between jobs for the day, I would just walk to the nearest bakery or park, sit down and daydream or read. I was an expert at wasting time, but I realized from reading that book, maybe it just added balance to my life. Many of my co-workers work multiple jobs, and if I have to do that I would just choke. As long as my life insurance can cover the bills and the funeral when I'm done, why stress about another job? I'm not hurting, I could be better, but then there's the time I just want to do nothing like read and read and read, and take hours drinking an iced latte under a cafe's canopy. If I wasn't so stuck as an East Coast Woman, maybe I would try Europe. I'd have to learn another language first, of course.
