Happy 15th Anniversary to my twin and her husband :)
I wanted to write a poem based on something that happened 10 years ago, but not much happened ten years ago that inspires poetry. I saw a Screaming Trees concert, which was very good. Mark Lanegan looked deathly ill, but sounded great. I had a P-Patch plot as part of the community garden program in Seattle. I sucked at gardening unless it involved pulling things out. The staff at the P-Patch program were some of the nicest people I met in Seattle. The other gardeners on the board were just giving, nice people also. For the most part I wasn't able to find a niche with my fellow Fremont P-Patch gardeners except for the food-bank plot. I only helped out a few times, but again, those that I talked with while working on the food-bank plot were incredibly nice people. I saw Tuatara at the Crocodile Cafe with another food-bank plot gardener.
I just switched careers. After about 7 years working in the social services, mostly volunteer, but also paid, I needed to leave. I burned out, and I wasn't doing anyone any good. In 1997 I started a new job as an administrative assistant. It was a culture shock to go from a job where I basically created the job, as it was new (Victim Advocate at a Domestic Violence Treatment Program) to an administrative assistant position. I only lasted 9 months as I just couldn't handle/understand what I was suppose to do. I had initiative, and drive, and that's why I was hired, but bosses only want that to show at opportune times if a person is an administrative assistant. Then I joined massage school near the end of 1997. One of the biggest financial mistakes of my life, but still I believe in it as a health-focused profession. I lasted a quarter. The end of 1997 I was a temp at Amazon.com, and then life changed in 1998 when I was hired full time. My first full time job with benefits in over 4 years. I stuck through it until a mass layoff in 2001.
So, 1997 was eventful, a lot of changes, nothing I'd want to write a poem about, though.
