Cookie Musings - 070407

I baked three batches of cookies today; Butter-Nut White Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Peppermint Snaps, and Black and White Shortbread. I didn't have time to dip the shortbread in dark and then white ganache so I'll do that tomorrow. The CPS were very good. Flat but good. The BNCCs were very sweet. The foundation recipe is very sweet as I noted in my cookbook, but I didn't pay heed. So, I ended up with sweet cookies again. They were not getting as hard as expected for the couple hours I put them in the fridge, and I wonder if it's due to the corn syrup and the brown and white sugar. Sugar is like a moisture magnet. It was very odd how the batter was mushier as the time came and went even though between bakings I would put it back in the fridge.

This may be a reflection of the heat in my apartment. It's amazing in a bad way. My bananas that sit on the counter next to my oven were hot. It was a hot day. My AC still isn't up to snuff in my opinion, so I had the windows and screen door open. A squirrel had it's nose up to my screen door. It's not perfectly on the window pane, so I hope the squirrel isn't as fearless as it looks. When I started to walk to the door it left.

I have my AC on now. It's like a sacrifice. My apartment maintenance staff seem to be laughing at me, and I'm very frustrated. I've lived here over 3 years so I think I would know when the AC isn't working. Anyway, I have it on. When I wake up incredibly hot tomorrow I will call the maintenance people again, and let them know it's not working still. I'm so annoyed.
