Coffee Musings - 063007

The last day of June, yippee!, and a full moon. Ohmygawd! It has felt full moonish for days, and with mecury retrograde I just wanted to get through the day.

My favorite podcasts are from compassionatecooks.com. I can see myself becoming vegetarian again, and I think a vegetarian diet makes sense. The whole thing about our teeth being made to eat meat is truly the dumbest justification for eating meat I have ever heard. Given the amount of time it takes to digest meat I don't think our bodies are made to eat meat. At the same time, just along that train of thought, given the gas created from eating beans or brocolli, are we really meant to eat those items, too? I can't drink milk straight anymore or I'm affected by it. I don't know how I was able to drink glass upon glass growing up and not remember any ill affects. Hmmm, something to ponder. I don't remember getting sick eating pizza :)

I can see myself baking vegan items, but not exclusively. However, I've never tried it before. As I've been looking into vegan cookbooks, and listening to compassionatecooks.com I'm interested in it not as a lifestyle change so much, but more as exploration of culinary possibilities. If lifestyle change happens, eh, no problem.

What has stopped me from trying *vegan* baking before are the vegan items I've tried from co-ops or grocery stores. They do not convince me that veganism is the way to baking in regards to taste and texture. I'm not willing to give up taste and texture. They were always too sweet, and almost like gummed sand in texture. I'm sure there are better, but how many vegan items to I have to eat to convince myself otherwise. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to bake them myself.
