Coffee Musings - 071607

I viewed the Way We Were on Friday, and then yesterday I decided to just look at the interviews with Barbara Streisand and Sydney Pollack. I wondered why Robert Redford wasn't interviewed, and I'm sure there are many reasons. However, Sydney Pollack said RR was reluctant to do the film because he was basically just a pretty boy. Then I saw two scenes that were edited that would have added depth to the Barbara Streisand/Robert Redford characters' relationship, and would have added depth to RR's character. It was a scene where we realized how necessary the Barb character was to RR because she pushed him to be the writer he knew he could be. Also, there was a scene that if it was included would make us realize how strong their relationship was. They didnt' break up because of the affair, they divorced because someone told the blacklisting committee that the Barb character was in the YCL, and because of that the RR character wouldn't get a job. In other words they severed the relationship for his career, and it really showed the depth of her loyalty for a person she believed in that wasn't just a cause.

Also, there was a scene with the Barb character feeding the BB character a grape, and if it was included, it would have showed a physical passionate side to their relationship. What I truly thought was missing was a physical connection, and it was there in that scene. If anyone rents that movie, then look at the interviews first to see all of the deleted scenes. The movie would make more sense.
